There is a lot of appeal in purchasing or selling knockoffs and replica handbags.  The authentic bags are very expensive and this can make it impossible to have the bags that others have and still stick to a budget.  This can often cause people to turn a blind eye to what they think is counterfeit or replicas of a piece just so they can say that they own a piece of luxury.

There are several problems with purchasing and selling replica handbags

If it can be proven that the purchaser bought the replica or fake designer handbags and purses knowing that they are not authentic purses then they can be charged with the purchasing of stolen or fake products.  This can add injury to insult for many customers who do not truly know that the products are stolen.  Receiving stolen goods is a crime after all.

Those who sell the replica and knockoff products are subject to further punishment such as copyright infringement, theft by deception, and counterfeiting.  All of these charges are very serious and can result in jail time and heavy fines.  It is not worth it for anyone to be involved in the buying or selling of fake designer handbags and purses.

In addition to the personal ordeals that can be had in the buying or selling of fake designer purses, there are economic problems and far reaching concerns that one should be aware of.  If there are individuals stealing the product or diverting what would be normal profits from a company, the company has to make up for the loss somewhere.  This means that the prices of the product will continue to climb as what was once out of reach becomes impossible to reach.

This rise in the prices of authentic purses and handbags has to be done carefully.  If the purse prices go up too high, then no one can afford to buy the purses and there is no profit or income to cover the manufacturing of the purses.  If the increase in prices is too low, then not enough of a profit or income is made and the manufacturing prices still are not met.

While most businesses expect some loss, the hope is that it can be limited and controlled.  Counterfeit and replica purses cause a significant amount of loss for the companies, especially as they target the middle class people and steal their hard earned money, giving them a cheap, no name purse or handbag in return.  It is the hope and the concern of the manufacturer and the designer that those who witness or have been taken advantage of by the counterfeiters will report the incidents to the proper authorities or contact the manufacturer and inform them so that action can be taken.

If one turns in those who are selling the products, often no charges are brought on them and there are no consequences to be had.  It is only when the theft goes unchallenged that there are problems to be had.  These thefts can be anything from people who create purses “inspired by…” other designers to those who are calling their purses by another designer’s name.  These thefts can be seen out the trunk of cars to at “purse parties” and handled by non-authorized agents and dealers.

It is only though the intervention of those who are on the street and making the purchases that counterfeiting will be stopped and that replica and knockoff purses will cease to exist. Once these purses and handbags are no longer on the market and the profits come back to the authentic purses, even those that are not designer label purses, the prices of the top shelf purses will decrease.
